Most women would shy away from the fact that their fiancé just up and left without notice…with some of the most expensive things in her home. Not me, I use my story as a warning to what is out there. When BlogHer and Intelius paid me to give the service a look through, I thought it would be a good way to tell my story. If I would have used the Intelius.com Date Check maybe I could have been clued in on the potential of something like that happening to me instead of sitting at the police station in shock. That was the day I learned my ex-fiancé had been “handled.”
I really don’t see this as doing anything creepy or wrong when you are checking on information on your potential boyfriend/girlfriend. Look at it as a safety precaution. Most people Google their dates anyway, but this service is so much better. Date Check pulls up all public records on the person you are looking for and that can’t be wrong because it’s public records.
The process was simple; all you had to do is input the person’s name and click the search button. The search works better if you can provide all or most of the information they ask for including name (first, last and middle initial) and current address. This will provide you with a more accurate search. Otherwise you will end up looking through tons of search results and sometimes that could lead to problems finding the right person. I made this mistake and came up with 100+ entries. If you don’t have access to that information, you might want to try to obtain it before paying for the search.
The good thing about it though, you can search for what you want and then if you find the listing you think you need. Only upon viewing the report are you required to pay for it. At least you don’t have to pay beforehand and end up with an empty search. You would definitely be mad you spent the $39.95 for nothing.
I know my search was a little bit too late, but now I know everything I ever wanted to know about him. I gained access to a criminal background check, bankruptcies, address history, sex offender check, small claims and judgments and I even found out who he was related too. You wouldn’t want to find out that you dated his first cousin and didn’t know about it, right? My advice, don’t go looking up this information if you’re casually dating someone…only if you see the potential with the person you are with. After all, no one will tell you everything about their past, especially if they are ashamed of it. We all have skeletons in our closet.
Or if you just want to see who you’re going on your blind date with, use the free people iSearch. This way you can just find out the general background on that person (name, age, address and phone number.)
If I would have paid the $39.95 for this Date Check, just maybe that $6,000 worth of things in my house might still be there. This service is definitely worth it.

You are SO right! My place just got cleaned out by a female friend, and a background check would TOTALLY have prevented this! When I did the background check (after having my computer, clothing, and everything in my home stolen while I had her house-sitting), it revealed that she had felony narcotics, tax evasions, and prostitution charges on her record.
In Missouri, we can used case-net to look up most of that stuff for free– so there was NO excuse for me to NOT have done this before leaving her alone in my home!
Good to know. I need to give this to my girlfriend.
AMEN I think this should be an accepted policy for future relationships! Too much bagage out there!
This service is awesome. Too bad this isn’t available where I come from.:(
